Description
Sitka Dreams captures the powerful wildlife and untamed beauty of Alaska. In the icy waters, whales move with quiet strength, while on land the forests are home to the Sitka black-tailed deer, often called the “king of the forest.” Ravens — large, intelligent birds with wingspans reaching up to 56 inches — soar through the Alaskan sky, watching over the land.
The painting brings these elements together in a dreamlike moment where sea, forest, and sky feel connected. Bold color and movement draw the viewer into the scene, creating a sense of wonder and quiet wilderness.
Artist Inspiration
This painting was born from a dreamlike vision of Alaska’s powerful animals together in one place — the song of the whales echoing through the water, the strength of the deer standing in the forest, and the presence of ravens moving through the sky.
As I painted, the colors and movement began to pull me into the scene itself, as if standing within the landscape, surrounded by the sounds and spirit of Alaska’s wild places.
In Alaska, the Sitka black-tailed deer is often referred to as the “king of the forest,” a symbol of the strength and quiet beauty found in the wilderness.
